Wyde Footwear vs Tolos (WearTolos): Sole, Fit and Materials Compared

Tolos Barefootwear and Wyde Footwear both sell sneakers with a wide toe box, a flat sole and a flexible build. They differ most in sole thickness, materials, sizing and price. Tolos sells its shoes online from Lakewood, Colorado. Wyde is a shoe brand with a range of sneakers, sandals, a slip-on and boots. It describes its shoes as the bridge between conventional shoes and barefoot shoes: a wide toe box, zero drop and everyday cushioning.

This comparison looks at the sneakers from both brands: soles, drop, toe box, sizing, uppers, prices as of October 2026, returns and care. Wyde Footwear publishes this blog.

How do Wyde and Tolos sneakers differ at a glance?

The biggest difference is the sole. The Tolos Archetype 3.0 has a 5.5 mm sole, while the Wyde Nova has 10 mm plus an insole and the Soma has 22 mm. Tolos also sells half sizes and lists its prices in US dollars, and Wyde sells full EU sizes only.

What are the main differences in short?

  • Thinnest sole: Tolos Archetype 3.0, at 5.5 mm.
  • Similar sole thickness: Tolos Transition versions (about 13 mm) and the Wyde Nova (10 mm plus insole).
  • Most sole under the foot: the Wyde Soma, at 22 mm.
  • Half sizes: Tolos. Wyde sells full EU sizes only.
  • Insole width published for every size: Wyde, at 11.2 cm in EU 42.
  • Lower listed sneaker prices: Tolos, at around $115 or less.
  • Leather, nubuck or suede sneakers handmade in Portugal: the Wyde Nova.

Which sneakers does each brand sell?

Tolos sells three sneaker designs: the Archetype 3.0, the Canvas High and the Soleil. Wyde sells two sneakers, the Nova and the Soma, and each comes in several colours.

What does Tolos sell?

The Archetype 3.0 is an ankle-height, slip-on sock bootie with a polymesh upper. The Canvas High has a cotton canvas upper with metal eyelets and a rubber toe bumper. The Soleil is an athletic, casual shoe with a ripstop mesh upper, layered synthetic suede and TPU accents. Canvas High and Soleil each come in a Barefoot and a Transition version. The Transition versions have a thicker sole.

What does Wyde sell?

The Nova is a leather, nubuck or suede sneaker with a rubber outsole and a Coolmax lining. The Soma is a cushioned sneaker with an air mesh and suede upper, a velvet lining and an EVA midsole. Wyde also sells sandals, a slip-on and boots, but this article compares sneakers only.

How thick are the soles on each sneaker?

Tolos offers the thinner soles: 5.5 mm on the Archetype 3.0 and about 7 mm on the Barefoot versions. Wyde lists 10 mm plus insole for the Nova and 22 mm for the Soma.

How does Tolos describe its soles?

The Archetype 3.0 spec list gives a stack height of 5.5 mm, made of 3.5 mm of rubber and a 2 mm sewn-in insole. An optional 3 mm EVA insole comes with it, and Tolos lists the cushion level as minimal. The Canvas High and Soleil are about 7 mm in the Barefoot version and about 13 mm in the Transition version.

Tolos compares the Transition stack height to Vans and Converse. It lists the Transition versions as best for people new to barefoot shoes, for barefooters who want more cushioned options, for court sports, for prolonged walking on concrete and for colder weather. The Barefoot versions are listed as best for adjusted barefooters and gym-style training.

How does Wyde describe its soles?

Wyde gives one stack height per model. The Nova has 10 mm plus the insole. Wyde adds that the Nova looks as if it has a higher stack height, but that this is purely a visual effect. The Soma has 22 mm with an EVA midsole and a rubber outsole, and it weighs 300 g in size 39.

If you want to feel the ground as much as possible, the Tolos Archetype 3.0 is the thinnest sneaker here. If you want a mid-thickness sole, the Tolos Transition versions at about 13 mm and the Wyde Nova at 10 mm plus insole sit close together. If you want the most sole, the Wyde Soma has it.

Do both brands sell zero drop sneakers?

Yes. Every Wyde model has zero drop and no toe spring. Tolos lists a heel-to-toe drop of 0 mm on the Archetype 3.0.

Zero drop means the heel and the toes sit at the same height, like standing barefoot. Tolos says the average athletic shoe has about 10 mm of drop. Toe spring is the upward curve at the front of many shoes that lifts the toes off the ground. Wyde's shoes have none, so the front of the sole stays flat.

How do the toe boxes compare?

Both brands offer a wide toe box. Wyde says every model has a wide, foot-shaped toe box as standard. Tolos describes its fit as more sloped than square.

Tolos says people with all foot shapes enjoy its shoes because they are wider than most shoes. Its Logic page sums up its approach as wide "almost always", flat "as much as possible" and flexible "as tolerated".

Wyde lists the insole width for every size, from 10.0 cm in EU 36 to 12.2 cm in EU 47, which is 11.2 cm in EU 42. You can measure the widest part of your forefoot and compare it with that number.

How does sizing compare, and how do you choose a size?

Tolos sells unisex US men's sizes 4 to 14, which is EU 35 to 48, with half sizes. Wyde sells unisex full EU sizes 36 to 47 with no half sizes. Use each brand's own chart, because the same EU number covers a different foot length.

A foot of 27.0 cm is EU 42 in the Tolos chart. In the Wyde chart, EU 42 covers 25.9 to 26.6 cm and EU 43 covers 26.6 to 27.2 cm, so a 27.0 cm foot is EU 43 at Wyde. Measure your own foot in centimetres before you compare.

What does each brand advise on size?

  • Tolos Archetype 3.0: the product page says true to size.
  • Tolos Soleil: the size chart adds half a size, and the product page says to start half a size up from your typical size.
  • Tolos Canvas High (Transition): if you own Archetypes, try half a size larger.
  • Tolos Canvas High (Barefoot): order your typical size, and choose the larger of two sizes if you are between sizes.
  • Wyde: stand upright, measure from the back of the heel to the tip of the longest toe, and choose the size that fits your longer foot.
  • Wyde: if you are between sizes, size up. Do not size up for width, because the wide toe box is standard on every model.

Wyde also has a digital sizing tool on its product pages. If you need help with fit, email support@wydefootwear.com or use the contact form on wydefootwear.com. For the full process, read Wyde Footwear Sizing, Size Exchanges and Returns Explained.

What are the uppers made of?

Tolos uses polymesh, cotton canvas and ripstop mesh with synthetic suede. Wyde uses leather, nubuck or suede on the Nova, and air mesh with suede on the Soma.

Which materials does Tolos use?

The Archetype 3.0 has a polymesh upper with internal TPU reinforcement in the side panels and toe cap, a high-grip rubber outsole and round laces. Tolos marks it as animal-free. The Canvas High has a cotton canvas upper, cotton laces, metal eyelets, a rubber toe bumper and a rubber outsole. The Soleil has a ripstop mesh upper with layered synthetic suede and TPU accents.

Which materials does Wyde use?

The Nova's upper depends on the colourway. The Nova Beige/Green uses LWG Gold certified nubuck leather with aviator leather. The Nova White uses LWG Silver certified aniline leather. The Nova Dual Black uses LWG Gold certified nubuck and grain leather. The Nova Brown Suede uses LWG Gold certified Italian suede leather. The Nova Patent Black has a patent leather upper. The Nova has a rubber outsole and a Coolmax lining.

The Soma has an air mesh and suede upper, a velvet lining, an EVA midsole and a rubber outsole. Wyde's range uses leather or suede, so it has no animal-free model. The Leather Working Group audits leather makers, so an LWG rating relates to the tannery and not to the finished shoe.

Where are Wyde sneakers made?

The Nova is handmade in Portugal. The Soma is made in China.

Wyde's FAQ says its leather models come from three family-run factories in Portugal and the Soma from a long-standing partner in China. Wyde says its Soma factory is ISO 9001:2015 certified for quality management and BSCI audited. Each Wyde product page states where that model is made.

Are these sneakers meant for outdoor use?

Wyde positions its sneakers for everyday wear on concrete and pavement, not for rough trails. Tolos separates its range by use: Transition versions for walking on concrete and colder weather, Barefoot versions for gym-style training.

Wyde's warranty does not cover shoes used outside their intended purpose, and Wyde gives sneakers used on rough trails as an example. Tolos lists court sports such as pickleball and tennis for its Transition versions. It calls the Soleil a performance shoe first, built to bridge athletic and casual use.

Tolos says of its first shoe, the Archetype, that it is a simple, sleek design that can be hard to style outside the gym or athletics. If you plan to wear sneakers on trails or in wet weather, check each brand's product page for its own guidance before you buy.

How much do the sneakers cost?

Tolos lists its sneakers at around $89 to $115, so it is the lower-priced brand. Wyde lists the Soma at 1,875 kr or €179 and the Nova at 2,375 kr or €215. All prices are as of October 2026.

How do returns and exchanges compare?

Both brands give 30 days from delivery to ask for a return, and both want the shoes back unused. Wyde offers free size exchanges in Sweden, the EU and the US. Tolos cannot offer exchanges on international orders.

What are the Tolos return terms?

Tolos gives you 30 days from delivery to request a return or exchange. Shoes must be unworn and in their original condition. Its contact page says US returns and exchanges are free. Its returns page says the package insurance, $3.98 at checkout, covers free initial shipping and prepaid labels on qualified returns and exchanges, and that after the first free exchange on an order you pay for shipping on later exchanges or returns.

For international orders, Tolos cannot offer exchanges. You return the shoes for a refund and place a new order. Approved refunds go back to the original payment method within 10 business days.

What are the Wyde return terms?

You have 30 days from the day you receive your order to register a return in Wyde's return portal. Shoes must come back unused, in original condition and in the original box. A few minutes of walking around indoors is fine. Size exchanges are free in Sweden, the EU and the US.

For a refund, Wyde deducts 100 SEK in Sweden and €10 in the EU to cover the prepaid label and warehouse handling. In Norway, Switzerland, the UK and Canada you arrange and pay for return shipping yourself.

What do the brands say about defects?

Wyde's warranty covers manufacturing defects and material faults under normal use. It lasts 3 years in Sweden under the Swedish Consumer Sales Act and 2 years in the EU under EU consumer law. Tolos asks you to get in touch within 90 days if you have an unnatural wear problem.

How do you clean each sneaker?

Tolos says all its shoes are made to be machine washable, on a cold cycle followed by air drying. Wyde recommends a soft dry cloth, or a damp cloth with a mild soap solution for tougher stains.

Tolos adds that the Archetype handles machine washing well, while the Canvas High and Soleil can occasionally shrink. Wyde says to store its shoes away from direct sunlight and to rotate them with other pairs to extend their lifespan.

When does Tolos suit you better?

Tolos suits you better if you want the thinnest sole, a choice between a Barefoot and a Transition version, or half sizes. Its listed sneaker prices are also lower.

What are the Tolos strengths?

  • A 5.5 mm sole on the Archetype 3.0, the thinnest in this comparison.
  • Barefoot and Transition versions of the Canvas High and Soleil, so you can pick the sole thickness.
  • Half sizes, and sizes up to EU 48.
  • Listed prices of around $89 to $115 for the sneakers in this comparison.
  • Machine-washable shoes.

When does Wyde suit you better?
